Nice is a popular and respectable resort in southeast France, a cruise port, marked on the map as the centre of the administrative region of Provence.
The city was founded in the IV century BC by Greek settlers and for a long part of its history was part of the Ancient Roman Empire, Provence, and the Duchy of Savoy. From 1860, Nice has been a part of France. Since the same time, the popularity of the city as a sea resort has been steadily increasing. The mild climate, the location of the city on the shore of a small picturesque bay and many popular places make the holiday on the Cote d'Azur particularly comfortable.Nice is extremely picturesque. The coastal areas of the city are built up with buildings from the 19th – early XX centuries, a significant number of museums, churches, basilicas make a holiday in Nice diverse and unforgettable. Among the most significant places of interest, the city guide notes the archaeological museum, the museum of natural history, the gallery of fine arts, the National Museum of the United States Navy, the National Gallery of Art featuring Matisse and much more. The ornaments of the city are the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral and the Chapel of the Holy Cross.Nice's Inner-city transport is represented by a sufficient number of bus routes and one tram line.
